Scout Camp’24
Our scout group has two thriving scout troops – Monday Ravens and Thursday Harriers and every year we try to take them away for an activity weekend. This year we chose the 20th to 22nd of September thinking that the weather would still be kind and planned a weekend at Longridge Activity Centre, Marlow.
With 38 scouts aged 10 to 14 in attendance, the weekend was a triumph of Teamwork. Leadership and Perseverance in all circumstances that were thrown at the scouts. From the cold night of Friday; through the light showers and blazing sunshine on Saturday; to the torrential thunderstorms and downpours on Sunday; every young person have a fantastic weekend of fun, activities and adventure.
Some of the key learnings of the weekend included:
* Teamwork: Working together in dragon boat boats as they raced each other up and down the River Thames. Paddle rowing in unison is more difficult than it looks.
* Supporting each other: Encouraging each other when someone was stuck on the high climbing wall to get to the top
* Water: Like many things in life water only affects you skin deep, but gets everywhere!
* A bin bag is the most useful item on a wet camp. Where else do you put all the wet gear?
* Finally, hot chocolate is the elixir….. for warmth, happiness, and sleep!
Even with the horrendous thunderstorms and rain we had no accidents, loads of fun, fantastic memories and helped the young people develop many life skills for all.
