About Us

1st Bernwood Forest Scout group offers fun, friendship and adventure for all age groups.

Scouting in this location began in 1958 and continues to thrive today. Looking back at our history our group has overcome a number of crisis’s. In 2004 we struggled to continue with only 18 members across Dinton, Long Crendon and Shabbington scouting groups and then in 2007 an arson attack on the Long Crendon scout hut destroyed the site.

Through local support, a passion for scouting, and the combined spirit of our local village groups, the 1st Bernwood Forest scouting group was created in 2008. Today this has grown to be one of the largest in the area at over 140 young persons and continues to grow with an increased demand for membership.

Our headquarters is based in Long Crendon, on the site rebuilt after the arson attack. We also run activities in Dinton village hall and our members are from our surrounding villages including Cuddington, Chilton, Shabbington and more. We have seven troops taking part in our top quality Scouting programme each week, providing skills for life for 6-18 year olds.

Our seven active troops are:

  • The Kestral Osprey Beaver Colonies for young persons from 6 to 8 years old
  • The Eagles, Falcon and Hawk Cub Packs for young persons from 8 to 10 years old
  • The Harrier and Raven Scout Troops for young persons from 10 to 14 years old
  • The Panther Explorer Scout Troop for young persons from 14 to 18 year olds

Each section is led by Warranted Leaders. These are volunteers who have undertaken formal training to ensure the standards of the Scout Movement are upheld and that the young people in their care receive full, diverse and activity filled programmes.  You can find out who the warranted leaders are for each section on our group pages under Join.

Our leaders plan activity programmes in providing young people skills for life.  The achievement of each activity or challenge is acknowledged by a badge or an award.  You can learn more about these on the scouting website.

We believe that through everyday adventure, new challenges and experiences it enriches both young persons and adults lives and true friendships are made along the way. Come and join our adventure…

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
