Group Events

Here at 1st Bernwood Forest Scout Group, we have a very busy programme of events that each section, be it Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs or Scouts undertakes across the year.

As a group, we come together twice a year for two major events that are tied into scouting, one in the Spring and one in the Autumn.

St George’s Day Parade – District Parade in Princess Risborough and celebration at the local church.

St George is the patron saint of scouting and to celebrate our commitment to scouting and to allow everyone to renew their scouting promises, we get together on the Sunday closest to St George’s Day (23rd April every year) with all of the other ten groups across the Chiltern Vale scouting district.

It is a fantastic event with hundreds of children attending. We parade down the high street in Princess Risborough and then assemble in the local church for a short celebration and to renew our scout promise. Parents and adult supporters watch the parade along the High Street and are welcome to watch the ceremony via the Chapter house, next to the church.

Remembrance Day Parade – Group Parade to the Long Crendon War memorial and celebration at St Mary’s Church.

In remembrance and honour of those who have been involved in conflicts across the world, we come together on the Sunday closest to Remembrance Day (11th November every year) in Long Crendon to parade to the local war memorial for a short remembrance service.

We then continue to parade down the High Street to St Mary’s church for a follow-on service at the other war memorial (yes, Long Crendon has two memorials).

Section Events

Each of our sections – across Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts – run very active programmes.

Many of our activities are based around our HQ and the local surrounding area. In addition, we do hikes, woodland adventures in Bernwood Forest (our namesake), and loads of camps and trips away.

We also take part in county events such as Endurance (hiking across the Chilterns for 10km or even 40km) and  The Big ‘O’ (orienteering in Wendover Woods). Our scouts also take part in the UK National Monopoly Run in London.
