New Wednesday Cub Section
Would you like to help us by volunteering a few hours a week?
Based in Long Crendon, covering Dinton, Stone, Cuddington, Shabbington, the Winchendons and more local villages, 1st Bernwood Forest Scout Group is one of the largest groups in the Chiltern Vale District area.
It is exciting to be involved with us. We believe in young people enriching their lives through new experiences and challenges; partaking in regular meetings, camping trips and day activities.
Our leaders plan activity programmes to provide young people with skills for life. The achievement of each activity or challenge is acknowledged by a badge or an award. You can learn more about these on the scouting website.
We believe that through everyday adventure, new challenges and experiences; it enriches both young persons’ and adults lives and true friendships are made along the way. Come and join our adventure…
We currently have an extensive waiting list for places at our two Cub (ages 7 ½ to 10 ½) sections, Eagles and Hawks Cubs which meet on a Monday and Thursday respectively. We really need to restart our third Cub section, Falcons, which use to meet on a Wednesday to meet the demand for Cub places. Unfortunately, this had to close in the autumn of last year.
While in the long run we need uniformed volunteer leaders, in order to kick start a small group we were hoping to recruit a group of five parents to help get this section off the ground. This would allow 12 children currently on the waiting list, the opportunity to get into scouting that otherwise they may not get. These parents would be supported by our two current Cub leaders dropping in to offer support and our Group Scout Leader, Martin Summerhayes
If this is something you might be interested in helping out with, Martin will host a zoom session to discuss the idea if we get sufficient interest. Please let me know on bernwoodmembers@gmail.com if you would be interested in attending.
If you are a parent you would get priority on the waiting list for your children and would not be required to pay Group fees (currently £150 per year per child) should you volunteer. If this role is not suitable for you, please could you share among your friends and contacts as it maybe suitable for someone who can support the group. Please reach out to me with any questions you might have.
