Trustee Board

The trustee board in scouts is like a board of governors in a school. They make sure young people get the best possible experience in their scouting group.

The volunteers that make up the board give their time to ensure that the group continues to meet its charitable purpose safely and legally. They make sure that there is enough money for the volunteers to deliver the programme and that equipment like tents and activity materials are available and safe to use.

Trustees come from all walks of life. Everyone can contribute something but skills that really help include: teamwork; social skills; decision-making; financial knowledge; legal knowledge; problem-solving; and computer skills.

Our trustee board comprises uniformed lead volunteers from every section. In addition, the following hold specific roles on the board:

  • Chair: Mike Dann
  • Membership Secretary: Rob O’Connor
  • Treasurer: Emmanuel Martin
  • Outreach & Website Coordinator: Ruth Jeffery
  • Group Lead Volunteer (aka GSL): Martin Summerhayes
  • Section Volunteers: Representatives from Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts

The our Trustee Board works together to make sure Scouts is run safely and legally.

Together, our Trustees make sure our charity is well managed, risks are assessed and mitigated, our building and equipment are in good working order, and everyone follows legal requirements and the Scout Policy, Organisation and Rules (called POR). Their support helps our volunteers run a fantastic programme that gives young people skills for life (and experiences they’ll remember forever).
